The Mindset Shift You Need To Go From Employee to Entrepreneur

When I first decided to start my own business I was looking for independence...

That idea of being my own boss...

Doing my own thing...

Singing my own song...

To say that I struggled and faced challenges is an understatement...

I had early "success" at first, but it didn't last...

It was almost like I was tied to a bungee cord pulling me down to where I came from...

Fear of losing what I was building...

It took me nearly a decade to not only learn about...

... but to just become aware that there is a different MINDSET...

A different way of thinking...

Between being an Employee... and being an Entrepreneur...

I had a few "false starts"...

I'd do good for a little bit... then come right back down... over and over...

Year after year...

I grew up not knowing any entrepreneurs or business owners...

Had zero experience...

.... and I didn't realize that I was raised with an employee mindset...

More likely to play it safe rather than take chances...

Looking at the cost of an opportunity VS focusing on the reward...

Making decisions based on fear instead of desire....

Growing up in middle class, we had to sacrifice some things for others...

We'd look for ways to save on some things so we could afford others...

Things would break, we'd fix them...

DIY projects were normal...

... but then when I tried to become an entrepreneur I realized that these thinking patterns were keeping me from reaching the levels of success I was looking for...

Take "do it yourself" type of work...

That was one of my biggest hurdles...

I was trying to do everything myself...

Trying to "save money" instead of hiring people to do the work...

So I ended up working 100+ hours a week...

... and had little to show for it...

I'd often find myself stuck...

Not knowing what work I should be doing...

... not really focused on one thing...

I was juggling too many tasks...

Unfocused...

Scattered brain...

I thought working more hours was the only way to earn more...

That's "employee" thinking...

Linear thinking...

That's the thinking pattern I had to become aware of...

... and learn that Entrepreneurs don't think in terms of linear growth...

They think in terms of quantum growth...

They look for ways to take a quantum leap forward...

As I reflect back through my entrepreneurial journey I now realize I had to make a massive shift in my thinking patterns...

... and here's how it happened...

I was coming out of almost filing for bankruptcy...

I was in survival mode...

Struggling to pay bills every month...

Had too much month at the end of the check sort of thing...

I remember not having a penny to my name to pay for mom's breakfast for her birthday...

(like I had promised)...

I had my sister cover for me...

That day was a defining moment for me because I made the decision that I was going to become a student of wealth...

When you know exactly WHAT you want...

Opportunities start showing up...

Soon after that day...

I met a friend... and mentor...

Mark Hoverson....

Mark was an 8-Figure Entrepreneur...

Diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Pancreatic Cancer in 2014...

Left this earth August 17, 2018

He was the most transformational mentor I had when it came to teaching and developing your wealth mindset...

The "money mindset"...

The mental blocks and challenges you will face when creating wealth...

The thinking patterns that need to be broken down...

... and rebuilt...

When I started doing what he taught me, I noticed a shift...

This may seem small, but for me it was a big shift...

Before...

I had to figure out how much gas I could afford and still have enough to buy groceries for the week...

After a few weeks of practicing what he taught me...

I'd go to pump gas and I wouldn't even bother to look at the price...

Didn't have to worry about money...

I'd go out to eat and instead of reading the menu from right to left... (checking prices first)...

I'd just order what I really wanted and not worry about cost...

Why?

I started to understand that wealth is something you either attract or repel...

I used to repel it...

... and didn't even knew I was repelling it...

That's the transformation I want to share with you...

Here's one of the best lessons he taught me...

The main role of an Entrepreneur is to have "vision"...

Literally to "dream"...

I had read this in the book the E-Myth by Michael Gerber...

... but I didn't know how it was done...

Until I learned this one strategy Mark taught me...

He would go on walks...

... and every step he took he would envision a thousand dollar commission being deposited into his bank account...

He called them thousand dollar steps...

In his mind...

His "vision"...

His "dream"...

He was making a thousand dollars every step...

Soon he was experiencing thousand dollar days in his business...

Then he upgraded to million dollar steps...

He understood that this was his biggest "work"...

He showed me how creating your "Vision" every day is the most important work an Entrepreneur does...

Some people call this "Law of Attraction" and other names... but there's more to it...

This is just one... small, yet powerful exercise he used to build his 8-Figure empire...

It was the foundation of what he called an "Invisible Empire"...

A business that existed only in his mind, until it showed up in real life...

I'm grateful I got to learn...
